In the spirit of the holiday season, the DA’s Annual Christmas Wish Program continues its heartfelt tradition of bringing joy to children across our parish. Each year, this initiative ensures that special families—referred by local public schools and, in certain cases, through work with children with special needs—receive the support and generosity that make Christmas truly magical.
Every child participating in the program is guaranteed a minimum of five gifts, each carefully selected from their individual Christmas Wish List. This personalized approach ensures that the gifts are meaningful and tailored to each child’s hopes, making the experience all the more memorable. The program’s commitment is unwavering: 100% of the gifts are distributed to children within our parish, reinforcing its dedication to the local community.
The success of the Christmas Wish Program is made possible by the remarkable generosity of local organizations and individuals. Donations pour in from the American Legion, Post #329, Chevron, Belle Chasse Garden Club, American Safety, LLC, Thompson’s Kitchen, DJ’s One Stop, Dr. Elizabeth Goodgion, Clerk of Court Kim Turlich-Vaughan’s Office, Mr. Ted Griffin, and Plaquemines Parish Employees from the Finance, Permits, and Buildings Departments. Their contributions, whether large or small, are instrumental in ensuring that every child’s wish is fulfilled.
At the helm of this initiative is Rae Riley, whose leadership and dedication have become synonymous with the program’s success. Under her guidance, volunteers and donors work tirelessly to organize, collect, and distribute gifts, making sure that every detail is attended to. The process is seamless: gifts are either delivered directly to families or picked up just in time for Christmas, ensuring that the excitement and anticipation of the holiday are preserved.
The impact of the DA’s Annual Christmas Wish Program extends far beyond the material gifts. For many families, especially those facing challenges, the program represents hope, kindness, and the reassurance that their community cares. The smiles on children’s faces and the gratitude expressed by parents are testaments to the program’s profound effect.
As the holiday season approaches, the program stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together. The collaboration between local schools, organizations, and dedicated individuals creates a network of support that uplifts families and strengthens the bonds within the parish. The DA’s Annual Christmas Wish Program not only delivers presents—it delivers joy, compassion, and the true spirit of Christmas to those who need it most.
With each passing year, the program grows in reach and impact, inspiring others to join in the effort. As gifts are wrapped and wishes fulfilled, the community is reminded that the greatest gift of all is the act of giving itself.
