BELLE CHASSE, La. — A Belle Chasse man has been sentenced after admitting to a years-long scheme to steal materials from a local businesses owned by a family friend.
On September 30, 2021, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported theft at D & M Steel, located at 1324 Engineers Road in Belle Chasse. Investigators determined that Curtis Pfister, a family friend of the business owners, had been stealing metal materials and selling them to Belle Chasse Scrap Metal for personal profit.
Surveillance footage from September 25, 2021, showed Pfister using a forklift to load large sheets of metal onto a D & M Steel 18-wheeler, transporting them to Belle Chasse Scrap Metal, and unloading them in the yard. Pfister was only authorized to perform building maintenance and had no permission to handle company equipment or materials.
Further investigation revealed Pfister had been selling stolen materials since February 2019. A customer sales report confirmed multiple transactions under his name. The stolen materials recovered at Belle Chasse Scrap Metal were unsalvageable.
Business owners Loni Chaisson and Leslie Gregg expressed disappointment and betrayal, noting Pfister was a close family friend of their late father.
On July 15, 2025, Pfister pled guilty before Judge Kevin Conner to one count of Theft of $25,000 or more, two counts of Theft of $1,000 but less than $5,000, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
