August 22, 2018
Contrary to false statements made by Plaquemines Parish President Amos Cormier, III, in his News Release of August 21, 2018, the Plaquemines Parish District Attorney’s main office has been in Belle Chasse since the Courthouse was destroyed in 2002 and it will remain there on a permanent basis. It is located at 102 Avenue G, in the building formerly occupied by the PPG Permit and Engineering Departments next to the Belle Chasse Ferry area.
The Plaquemines Parish Council, that is in charge of building allocations, in 2015 designated Building No. 201 located at the PPG Complex on F. Edward Hebert Drive to be the future location of the District Attorney’s Office (Resolution 15-268). Until the renovations to that building are completed, the main office of the District Attorney will remain its present site. PPG has already expended over $400,000 on the renovations.
The District Attorney’s Office has a satellite office in the Port Sulphur Government Building, Suite 215 (2 rooms). Other agencies also use this office.
The District Attorney’s Office will also have a satellite office in the new Courthouse presently being built in Pointe a – la – Hache. It will be used for court days and on an appointment basis as well. It will have four rooms for meeting with victims, witnesses, preparation for hearings and trials, and general trial use.
The public should not be misled by any false statements. It should also be noted that the primary office’s of the Assessor, Clerk of Court and Sheriff were in the Courthouse before it was destroyed in 2002, and since then their respective Office’s have been located in Belle Chasse. These offices will likewise have a satellite office in the new Courthouse.
If anyone has any questions or would like to discuss this further, please feel free to contact me.
